Your Word Is a Lamp

God’s Word is a lamp that lights your path, revives your soul, and restores faith. When life feels hard, reconnect with Scripture and walk closely with Jesus.

Have you ever opened your Bible, stared at the page, and felt… nothing?

You love Jesus. You believe the Word of God is living and powerful. And yet, there are seasons when motivation is hard to find. If that’s you, take heart—you are not failing, and you are not alone.

Many of us go through wilderness seasons in our quiet time. These seasons don’t mean God is distant or that we’ve lost our faith. Often, they are invitations to slow down, listen more closely, and allow God to strengthen us where we are weak.

When Motivation Feels Missing

Whenever you lack motivation to read your Bible, it may not be laziness at all. It could be a lack of faith in one area of your life—an unspoken fear, an unanswered prayer, or a weariness you’ve been carrying quietly.

Faith ebbs and flows, especially for women who pour themselves out for others every day. God knows this. He is not surprised by your struggle, and He is never disappointed in your desire to come back to Him.

A helpful practice—especially at the beginning of a year or a new season—is to get alone with Jesus and ask Him a simple, honest prayer:

“Lord, show me where my faith is weak, and strengthen me there.”

God loves to answer prayers like this.

Why God’s Word Matters

(Even When It Feels Hard)

Scripture itself tells us why the Word of God is essential—not as a checklist, but as a lifeline.

1. God’s Word revives your soul

“The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul.” (Psalm 19:7)

When your heart feels tired or heavy, God’s Word brings renewal. It restores what life drains away. Even a few verses read slowly can bring quiet healing to your soul.

2. God’s Word lights your path

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

God rarely lights the entire road ahead. Instead, He gives light for the next step. Scripture helps us see clearly where we are and where He is gently leading us—one faithful step at a time.

Faith grows as we remain in the Word. Romans reminds us that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). Time in Scripture reshapes our desires, loosens sin’s grip, and reminds us who we are in Christ.

Expect God to Change Your Heart

When you pray over these promises, don’t rush past them. Sit with them. Expect God to respond.

God does not merely want you to read your Bible—He wants to meet you there. As you bring Him your honest lack of motivation, He begins the quiet work of changing your heart from the inside out.

Strategies for Returning to the Word

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s consistency wrapped in grace.

Here are a few simple ways to gently rebuild your quiet time:

1. Choose the same time each day
Your time with Jesus doesn’t have to be long, but it helps when it’s predictable. Morning, afternoon, or evening—choose what works for your season and protect it as best you can.

2. Find a quiet, undistracted place
This might look different in every season of motherhood or life. Sometimes it’s a cozy chair with coffee. Other times, it’s the bathroom while little hands are knocking on the door. God meets you wherever you are.

3. Use a Bible Reading Plan

A plan removes the pressure of deciding what to read. You can choose one that walks you through the Bible slowly or focuses on a specific theme. Progress matters more than speed. Grace matters more than completion.

Reading God’s Word is not about checking a box—it’s about drawing near to the One who already loves you.

Even if today all you can do is open your Bible and whisper, “Lord, help me,” that is enough. He will light your path—one step at a time.
