3 Truths God Taught Me Through Psalm 25 as a Struggling Mom

Are you a struggling mom feeling overwhelmed or discouraged? Psalm 25 reveals three comforting truths that bring peace, direction, and renewed hope in God.

As a struggling mom, trying to balance all the plates while raising my kids, homeschooling them, and desperately trying to keep everything running smoothly in my home, life often felt beyond exhausting.

I was clearly overdoing things, desperately trying to become the best Proverbs 31 woman possible. In trying to do that, I epically failed—because no one can live out that beautiful picture apart from God’s continuous help and grace.

I would even venture to say that many of the activities listed in Proverbs 31 are descriptive encouragements, not a checklist that every mom must accomplish daily. After my last baby was born, I developed a severe case of mastitis and found myself bedridden with an energetic toddler bouncing around me, fully unaware that mama was completely worn down and sick. Looking back, I can smile a little, but in the moment, it felt overwhelming.

It is nearly impossible for a mom raising toddlers, tweens, and teens to fully slow down. But during that season, God gently began teaching me that I needed to scale back and release my grip on trying to do everything perfectly.

Interestingly, just this past week, I found myself relearning this lesson while caring for three of my grandchildren. Once again, I recognized that I was doing too much and needed to slow my pace and rest in God’s strength instead of my own.

It is for these reasons that Psalm 25 has become such a treasured chapter in my life. It has been a powerful anchor during discouraging seasons and a roadmap leading my anxious heart toward peace through trust, surrender, and reliance on Jesus.

3 Truths From Psalm 25 to Encourage the Struggling Mom

1. You Can Find Guidance When You’ve Lost Your Way

(Psalm 25:4–5, 6–7, 11)

“Show me Your ways, O Lord;
Teach me Your paths.
Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
For You are the God of my salvation;
On You I wait all the day.” (Psalm 25:4–5 NKJV)

Motherhood can sometimes feel chaotic, confusing, and directionless. There were seasons when I felt like I was constantly reacting instead of leading my home with calm confidence.

Psalm 25 gently reminds us that we are not meant to figure everything out on our own. God lovingly invites us to surrender and ask Him to show us His ways and teach us His paths.

Waiting on the Lord can feel incredibly hard when your heart feels heavy or uncertain. Yet waiting is never wasted time. While we wait, God is actively working within us. He shows us His perspective when ours is limited. He teaches us through His Word. He leads us step by step, never abandoning us during uncertain seasons.

You do not need to have a perfect plan for your motherhood journey. God promises to guide humble hearts that seek Him.

When you feel lost, it becomes a beautiful invitation to lean on His wisdom rather than your own.

2. His Love and Mercy Cover Your Failures

(Psalm 25:6–7, 11)

“Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses,
For they are from of old.” (Psalm 25:6 NKJV)

Does discouragement sometimes come from guilt or regret? I know it did for me. During one of the deepest valleys of my motherhood years, I battled constant accusations in my thoughts. Even though I had asked Jesus for forgiveness, I still clung to past failures and struggled to move forward.

Psalm 25 reminded me that God’s mercy is not based on my performance but on His unchanging goodness.

These verses became deeply personal during seasons when discouragement felt overwhelming. They reminded me that God’s lovingkindness has always been part of His character. When anxiety rises or weariness settles deep into a mother’s heart, His mercy becomes a steady anchor for our souls.

God does not respond harshly to our weaknesses or struggles. Instead, He meets us with compassion. His mercy gently wipes away the “mud on our windshield,” allowing us to see clearly again.

Once you have brought your failures to Jesus, He has forgiven you. He does not keep a running record of your mistakes. He meets you with grace, restoration, and tender love.

3. Waiting on God Is Active Trust, Not Passive Resignation

(Psalm 25:3, 5, 21)

Psalm 25 repeatedly emphasizes the phrase “waiting on the Lord.” For years, I misunderstood waiting as simply doing nothing. But God showed me that waiting is actually an act of deep, active trust.

Waiting means choosing to believe God is working even when we cannot see movement. It means putting down our self-made maps and trusting His navigation system instead of trying to control every outcome.

Motherhood often demands quick decisions, constant movement, and endless responsibility. Yet spiritual strength grows when we intentionally pause and place our hope in God’s timing and direction.

Scripture reminds us that those who hope in Him will never be put to shame. Waiting is not a weakness. Waiting is courageous faith.

Bible Journaling Tips

Simple journaling can be incredibly encouraging when you’re struggling, especially during busy or emotionally draining motherhood seasons. You do not need complicated artwork or advanced skills to engage deeply with Scripture.

Here are some gentle, “easy-peasy” Bible journaling ideas inspired by Psalm 25:

Try Prayerful Scripture Writing

Slowly copy Psalm 25:4–6 into your journaling Bible or notebook. Pause over meaningful words like tender mercies, lovingkindness, or teach me. Let the Holy Spirit encourage your struggling heart as you write.

Create a Simple Border

Draw an uncomplicated frame around your verse using vines, dotted lines, or gentle floral patterns. Imperfect lines often add charm and keep your focus on the message rather than artistic perfection.

Use Limited Colors

Choose two or three coordinating colored pencils to highlight key phrases. Limiting colors helps keep your page peaceful and uncluttered while drawing attention to powerful truths.

Add Meaningful Symbols

Consider small hearts, raindrops representing mercy, or soft floral accents symbolizing God’s tenderness and care.

Include a Short Prayer or Reflection

Leave a margin to write a simple prayer, such as:
“Lord, teach me to trust You while I wait.”

Date Your Page

Over time, your journaling Bible becomes a beautiful testimony showing how God carried you through different motherhood seasons.

Bible journaling is not about artistic skill. It is about slowing down, soaking in God’s Word, and allowing His mercy to quiet your heart.

A Gentle Reminder for the Struggling Mom

If motherhood feels overwhelming today, Psalm 25 offers incredible comfort. God is not asking you to carry everything perfectly. He invites you to trust Him, receive His mercy, and wait confidently in His faithful care.

Whether you are raising toddlers, guiding teens, or even helping care for grandchildren, these truths remain steady and unchanging as Jesus guides us.

  • God will guide you.
  • God’s mercy covers you.
  • God is working while you wait.
