Living Hope: Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus

Discover how fixing your eyes on Jesus gives you a living hope that transforms your heart daily through God’s Word and the power of Christ.

One of the most beautiful truths of the Christian life is that we are not left alone to struggle with sin and discouragement. Because of Jesus, we have a living hope—a hope that changes us day by day as we follow Him.

Jesus did not come only so that we could go to heaven someday. He came to transform us now.

His death and resurrection opened the way for forgiveness, but they also opened the way for transformation. Through Christ, we are invited into a daily journey of becoming more like Him.

As Easter approaches, it’s a wonderful time to reflect on what Jesus accomplished on the cross and how that truth shapes our everyday lives.

A Heart That Reflects Christ

The apostle Peter reminds us that the most beautiful transformation happens in the heart.

1 Peter 3:3–4 (NKJV)
“Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel—rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”

In a world that focuses so much on outward appearance, God is far more concerned with what is happening inside our hearts.

That hidden person of the heart is where sanctification takes place.

When we first come to Christ, our sins are forgiven completely. But the journey of becoming more like Jesus continues throughout our lives.

Sometimes we think of sin only in big categories—major failures or dramatic moral falls. Yet many of the struggles we face are far more subtle.

  • It may be the sharp tone we use when we are tired.
  • It may be impatience with our husbands or children.
  • It may be complaining when circumstances feel overwhelming.

These “small” sins are easy to justify.

But if we are honest, they reveal that our hearts still need to be transformed.

This is why the Christian life is a daily battle. Scripture calls us to actively fight against sin and pursue holiness.

Not in our own strength—but in the power of Christ.

The Strategy for Transformation

So, how does this change actually happen?

The Bible gives us a very clear picture.

2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV)
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

This verse reveals something incredibly encouraging.

Transformation happens as we behold the glory of the Lord.

In other words, as we continually look to Jesus, the Holy Spirit changes us.

We are not transformed by sheer determination or willpower. We are transformed by seeing Him.

As we spend time in God’s Word, we begin to see the beauty of Christ more clearly.

  • We see His patience.
  • His humility.
  • His compassion.
  • His holiness.

And slowly, almost quietly, the Spirit begins shaping those same qualities in our lives.

It is a lifelong process.

The Bible describes it as moving “from glory to glory.”

Little by little.

Day by day.

Hiding God’s Word in Our Hearts

This is why Scripture plays such an important role in our daily lives.

Knowing Jesus Better Bible Reading Plan

Psalm 119:11 (NKJV)
“Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.”

When we fill our minds with God’s Word, we are filling our hearts with truth.

And truth has power.

God’s Word exposes the subtle sins we might otherwise overlook. It gently corrects our attitudes. It reminds us of Jesus’ character.

This is why a daily Bible reading routine is so important.

It’s not just a spiritual discipline to check off a list.

It is how we learn to fix our eyes on Jesus.

Through Scripture, we see His glory.

And when we see Him clearly, our hearts begin to change.

Keeping Our Eyes on Jesus

The Christian life is not about perfection.

It is about direction.

Each day we wake up with a choice. We can drift through the day reacting to circumstances, or we can intentionally fix our eyes on Christ.

When we focus on Jesus, something remarkable happens.

  • Our frustrations begin to soften.
  • Our responses become more patient.
  • Our hearts become more tender.

We begin to reflect Him.

This is the hope we have as believers—a living hope that continues working in us.

And it all starts by looking to Him.

A Living Hope as Easter Draws Near

As Resurrection Sunday approaches, it’s a beautiful opportunity to meditate on what Jesus accomplished for us.

Resurrection Bible Reading Plan

He endured the cross so we could be forgiven.

He rose from the grave so we could walk in newness of life.

Because of His resurrection, we are not trapped in the patterns of our old, sinful nature.

Through Christ, we are being transformed.

Each time we open our Bibles.

Each time we confess our sins.

Each time we ask God to change our hearts.

Little by little, He is making us more like Jesus.

That is our living hope.

So as Easter draws near, let’s intentionally keep our eyes on Christ.

Reflect on the cross.

Reflect on the empty tomb.

And invite the Lord to continue His beautiful work of transformation in your heart.

The more we behold Him, the more we will reflect Him.

And that is the journey of sanctification—walking daily with Jesus until the day we see Him face to face.
