Trusting Jesus with Tomorrow

Finding Peace in Today

Find peace in today by trusting Jesus with tomorrow. This devotional on Matthew 6:33–34 reminds you to rest in His faithful care, let go of worry, and seek His presence first each day.

Trusting Jesus with Tomorrow

We often carry tomorrow’s burdens into today—and it leaves our hearts heavy. Jesus gently reminds us in Matthew 6 that we don’t need to live this way. He invites us to live in the present moment, trusting Him to take care of tomorrow. When we place Him first—above our plans, problems, and anxieties—He faithfully supplies what we need for each day.

That sounds easier said than done, doesn’t it? I’ll be honest, I struggle with this too. Worry can sneak up without warning. It might not even be about the big things—like major life changes or health challenges—but often the small, everyday things: how I’ll get everything done, what I might be forgetting, or whether I’m handling something the “right” way.

Worry happens almost subconsciously. I might be stirring my morning coffee or writing out my to-do list when a flood of “what ifs” rolls in. Before I know it, my peace has quietly slipped away, replaced by anxious thoughts that crowd out trust in Jesus.

🌸 Faithfulness in the Small Moments

I’ve learned over the years that peace doesn’t just happen—it’s cultivated. It’s grown in the soil of daily faithfulness.

I firmly believe in staying faithful in reading and studying God’s Word daily, so that when those harder times come, we’re spiritually equipped and emotionally grounded. God’s Word becomes the foundation we can stand on when the storms of life shake everything else around us.

When Jesus says, “Seek first the kingdom of God,” He’s not giving us another item to check off our list. He’s showing us how to order our priorities so that everything else falls into place. Seeking Him first means turning our hearts toward His truth before the noise of the day begins.

That might look different for each of us. For some, it’s a quiet early morning with a cup of coffee and a Bible open. For others, it’s journaling while the kids nap or whispering prayers while folding laundry. What matters isn’t when we do it, but that we do it—with a heart willing to meet God in the ordinary.

When we seek Him first, something miraculous happens. The endless “what ifs” of life begin to lose their power.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. — Matthew 6:33–34 (NKJV)

🌿 The Endless “What Ifs”

The “what ifs” are powerful, aren’t they?

  • What if I can’t handle what’s ahead?
  • What if things don’t work out?
  • What if I make the wrong decision?

These questions feed worry and drain peace. But when we rest in God’s presence, those fears lose their grip. We can’t predict tomorrow—but we know the One who holds it.

Worry thrives when we focus on the unknown, but peace grows when we fix our eyes on Jesus. He knows our needs before we even ask. He knows the outcome before the situation even begins. And He delights in providing for His children.

That truth changes everything.

It means that when you’re fretting about the bills, the relationships, the deadlines, or the kids—God already has a plan. He’s not pacing Heaven’s floor, wondering how to help you. He’s working behind the scenes, inviting you to rest in His care.

💗 Seeking Him in Practical Ways

When we make seeking Jesus a priority—through prayer, journaling, or quiet reflection—our hearts begin to settle. His Word becomes an anchor, reminding us that He is faithful, no matter what tomorrow holds.

If you’re wondering how to begin resting in Him when your mind feels scattered, here are a few simple ideas:

  1. Start your day with Scripture.
Even one verse can refocus your heart. Write it out in your journal, underline it in your Bible, or put it on a sticky note where you’ll see it throughout the day.
  2. Pray instead of worrying.
The moment you feel anxious thoughts rise, whisper a prayer. Something as simple as, “Lord, I give this to You,” can redirect your heart toward trust.
  3. Journal your worries.
Sometimes writing them down helps you release them. List your concerns, then draw a line through them and write “God’s in control” beside each one.
  4. Practice gratitude.
Thank God for His faithfulness in the past. Gratitude is one of the most powerful ways to quiet fear and cultivate peace.
  5. Rest intentionally.
Find a quiet place, even if it’s just a few minutes in your car or a cozy chair in the corner. Breathe deeply and remind yourself that God is present in this very moment.

These small practices make space for peace. They help us slow down, breathe, and remember who God is and how deeply He cares for us.

🌼 His Faithful Care

When I think about how many times I’ve carried tomorrow’s worries into today, I’m so thankful for God’s patience and grace.

He doesn’t scold us for worrying—He gently calls us back to trust. Like a loving Father, He reminds us that we don’t have to figure everything out on our own.

“Come to Me,” Jesus says, “all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28 NKJV).

That invitation never expires. Whether it’s early morning, mid-afternoon, or late at night when your thoughts won’t settle, Jesus is waiting with open arms.

He knows your worries. He understands the fears you never speak aloud. And He promises His peace—not the world’s version of peace that depends on everything going right, but the deep, steady peace that comes from trusting Him completely.

☕ Resting in Jesus Today

So today, I encourage you to find that quiet place and rest in Jesus. Pour out your cares before Him, and then release them—trusting that He will take care of you.

Don’t let tomorrow steal today’s peace. Each day has enough to handle on its own. Let tomorrow stay in tomorrow, while you seek His peace and strength today.

If you’re struggling with worry, write out Matthew 6:33–34 in your journal. Reflect on it. Illustrate it in your Bible. Make it part of your prayer.

Ask God to help you live in the present moment—grateful, trusting, and fully surrendered to His will.

Because when you do, you’ll discover the beautiful truth:
Peace isn’t found in having everything under control—it’s found in trusting the One who already does.
