Trusting God When Fear Tries to Take Hold
Fear might even have such a hold on your life that you don’t realize it’s there. Sometimes it’s woven so tightly into our thoughts that we simply call it “normal.” Yet deep inside, fear quietly grips our hearts, steals our peace, and keeps us from stepping fully into God’s purpose.
Living fearlessly is about trusting the Lord. It’s about walking courageously—just as Joshua did when God told him to enter the Promised Land. Fear tried to stand in his way, but faith in the Lord led him forward.
Friend, fear, and faith cannot dwell in the same heart at the same time. One will always push out the other.
That’s why I’m starting this new series on Living Fearlessly—to help us both walk in faith, courage, and confidence in Jesus.

Recognizing the Grip of Fear
Do you struggle with fear?
If so, you’re not alone. Fear can sneak into our thoughts without our realizing it. It can show up in small ways—worrying about your children, finances, or health—or in bigger ways that leave you paralyzed and unsure how to move forward.
A few years ago, I had a moment when fear gripped my heart so strongly that reason flew out the window.
My husband used to leave for work at 4 a.m., and one morning, around 5:15 a.m., I heard footsteps running through the house and down to the basement. I knew both my husband and son had already left.
Unreasonable fear wrapped around me. My heart pounded. I quietly dressed, grabbed my purse and keys, and tiptoed toward the kitchen door. I was convinced an intruder was in the house.
As I stepped across the deck toward our van, my husband calmly walked by on his way to the garage. He had returned for something he forgot.
He thought it was hilarious. Me? Not so much!
Looking back, I realize how easily fear can twist our thinking. It can make the imagined feel real, and our reactions can become irrational. That’s what fear does—it steals our peace and replaces it with panic.
Living Fearlessly Through Faith
Have you ever noticed that fear feeds irrationality? It whispers what if, instead of God will.
But Scripture is filled with reminders that we don’t have to live enslaved to fear. The Lord knew we would struggle with it—He tells us “Do not fear” more than 300 times in the Bible!
When we replace fear with trust, faith begins to grow. Living fearlessly isn’t about pretending nothing can harm us. It’s about knowing that even when life feels uncertain, God’s presence is sure.
10 Verses for Living Fearlessly
Each of these verses offers a foundation to build courage on. Let God’s Word fill your heart with peace and strength as you meditate on it.
- Isaiah 43:1 — Living fearlessly because He has redeemed you!
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine.” You belong to Him. There’s no need to fear when your identity is secure in Christ. - Jeremiah 29:11 — Living fearlessly because your hope is in God!
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Even when you can’t see the path ahead, God’s plan is full of peace and purpose. - Deuteronomy 31:6 — Living fearlessly because God will not leave you!

God is your unshakable refuge when the storms of life roar.
Finding Joy in Fearless Living
These verses have carried me through times when fear threatened to overwhelm me. When I turned to them, God reminded me that His love is stronger than any anxiety or uncertainty.
When you come to the place where you can live fearlessly—trusting God fully—you’ll also find joy. Not the fleeting kind of joy that depends on circumstances, but the deep, steady joy that comes from knowing your Savior is in control.
So, friend, take a deep breath today. You don’t have to face life’s unknowns alone. God is already there—before you, behind you, and beside you.
When fear starts to whisper, speak God’s truth out loud. Pray through these verses. Write them on your heart. Let His promises replace every anxious thought with peace.
