Does Your Heart Break Because God has No Grandchildren?
Does it break your heart that God has no grandchildren? It would be so much easier if our kids automatically go to heaven. It is so heartbreaking to see our children choose the world over Christ, isn’t it?!
I hear from so many of you that one or more of your children are not following Jesus.
They may be very successful adults with a beautiful family but if they have not totally surrendered their life to God and trusted Him for salvation, their name will not be written down in the Lamb’s book of life (Revelation 20:15; Philippians 4:3)
He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. Revelation 3:5
Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but[a]rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” Luke 10:20
Nothing is more discouraging, especially for a mother.
A Mother’s Revival and Concern for Her Children
I have sat in church revival meetings where God was speaking to my heart before the speaker ever got up to give his message. With tears running down my face, I wished that I could disappear to be alone with the Lord.
As the Holy Spirit moved through the room, somehow it missed the young people. They are the ones that will be the next generation and carry the torch with the message of Jesus to our lost country and the regions beyond.
Why is it that many of them are not getting it?
As a mother, I remember the commitment I made at the end of service after Keith Daniel from South Africa spoke. I took the challenge to allow God to work in my children’s lives without my interference and do whatever it takes to bring them to the Lord.
Many of you have been faithful in teaching your children and are allowing the Lord to do the work in their lives.
Why as mothers do we care so deeply?
Why do our children have a free will?
Wouldn’t it be easier if they had to follow God?
Why God Does Not have Grandchildren?
I naively thought that if I diligently taught my children, all seven would surely grow up and follow the Lord with all of their hearts.
You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. Deuteronomy 6:7
This struggle for the spiritual lives of our children isn’t unique to this generation. This is something that has been a real issue throughout the history of the world. God has no grandchildren. They have to choose to follow Christ themselves.
Things don’t always work out the way we plan!
Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had known all the works of the Lord which He had done for Israel. Joshua 24:31
It is tragic that after the deaths of Joshua and his elders that his faith was not transferred to the Israelites.
Again, the same thing happened under the direction of the judges of Israel.
When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work which He had done for Israel. Judges 2:10
We see the same pattern through the reign of the kings. One king destroyed all the idols, following God with all his heart. Meanwhile, his son reverted back to worshiping idols and doing everything evil more than the previous generations.
God doesn’t have grandchildren but only sons and daughters. He wants us to WANT to love Him and serve Him with all our hearts.
When Your Heart Breaks because God Has No Grandchildren
There is no doubt that your heart will break when your children choose not to follow God.
But . . .
God doesn’t want you to stay there!
He wants you to face your trials with joy!
He wants you to walk in victory!

I don’t know if I ever told you my story. You see, several of our children have made choices that don’t include God.
I came to a point several years ago where God stepped in and replaced my sorrow and sadness with joy.
He put a new song in my heart and I cannot go back to live in that place of depression over the choices my children have made.
I may have 20 or 30 years left to live and serve God. I don’t want to live out whatever years I have left with the heaviness that sorrow stifles us with!
There are so many other women struggling with the same things who I might be able to encourage because I have been there.
Are you in that place of sadness over your children?
Although God doesn’t have any grandchildren, would you really want your children to mindlessly follow God without the revival and desire in their hearts to love him wholeheartedly?
I think not!
It wouldn’t be real.
It would be shallow.
But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 1 Peter 5:10
The one thing that can change everything is Praying for your children for the rest of your life. Will you join me in praying?
