The Lord Led Me on the Way

Trusting God’s Guidance in Every Season

Be encouraged as you reflect on how the Lord led me through both uncertain and clear seasons. Discover how God guides you step by step as you walk with Him.

There’s something about looking back that brings clarity.

In the middle of a hard season, everything can feel uncertain—like you’re walking through a fog where you can only see one step ahead. You pray, you wait, you wonder if you’re hearing God correctly. And sometimes… You don’t feel certain at all.

But then, later—sometimes much later—you look back and quietly realize:
He led me.

That realization doesn’t always come in the moment. It comes in remembering.

As I’ve been reading through my Genesis Bible Reading Plan, one verse has settled deeply into my heart:

Genesis 24:27 (NKJV)
“And he said, ‘Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His mercy and His truth toward my master. As for me, being on the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master’s brethren.’”

That phrase—being on the way, the LORD led me—has stayed with me.

He didn’t say the Lord led him before he started.
He didn’t say everything was clear from the beginning.
He recognized God’s leading while he was already moving forward.

And if I’m honest, that’s exactly how it has been in my own life.

When the Path Feels Unclear

This unnamed servant demonstrates his deep faith in carrying out Abraham’s request. It’s possible that Abraham was too advanced in years to make the long journey to his homeland to find a wife for his son, Isaac. He fully trusted his servant to carry out the task.

There have been many times when I wished God would just lay everything out clearly in front of me.

  • A neat plan.
  • A certain outcome.
  • A guarantee that I was making the right decision.

But that’s rarely how He works.

Instead, He asks us to trust Him step by step.

There were seasons in my life when the path felt clouded—when I couldn’t see what was ahead and had to move forward anyway. Trust was the only thing that carried me through. Not certainty. Not clarity. Just trust.

Sometimes I have taken steps, thinking, Lord, if this isn’t Your will, please close the door.

And do you know what?
He has always been faithful to guide—sometimes by opening doors, and sometimes by gently shutting them.

Led in the Hardest Seasons

One of the clearest ways I’ve seen God lead was during one of the most trying seasons of my life—raising children through difficult circumstances.

Motherhood is beautiful, but it can also be incredibly stretching.

When your child is struggling, your heart feels it deeply. You carry concerns that no one else fully understands. You pray for wisdom constantly, because the weight of your decisions matters so much.

There were days I didn’t know what to do.

Not big, dramatic moments—but everyday decisions. Conversations. Reactions. Timing. Words spoken and unspoken.

And yet, looking back, I can see something so clearly now:

God led me—not just in the big decisions, but in the smallest moments.

  • He gave strength when I didn’t have it.
  • He gave patience when I felt worn thin.
  • He gave wisdom right when I needed it.

It wasn’t loud or obvious.
It was steady. Quiet. Faithful.

He met me in the ordinary… and in the overwhelming.

And if you’re in a season like that right now, feeling stretched and unsure—He will do the same for you.

Young Rebekah willingly draws water for the servant AND for ALL his camels. God led her on the way to a new life with a wonderful husband.

Led in the unexpected.

The second example looks very different—but it was just as clearly the Lord’s leading.

When my husband and I decided to move from northeastern Pennsylvania to the northwoods of Wisconsin, everything happened so quickly that it almost felt unreal.

It wasn’t a long, drawn-out process filled with uncertainty.

It was one of those moments where the next step became clear almost instantly.

And just in case we wondered whether it was truly the Lord or simply our own thinking, He confirmed it in ways we couldn’t ignore.

Our home sold within two days.

Every detail of the move—over 1,000 miles—fell into place so smoothly it was undeniable.

Within one month, we were living in Wisconsin.

Even now, it sometimes feels like a dream.

That kind of leading is different. It’s clear, direct, and unmistakable.

But here’s what stands out to me:

Both seasons—the hard, slow one and the sudden, clear one—were equally guided by God.

The Pattern of Being “On the Way”

What ties both of these experiences together is this simple truth:

God led me on the way.

  • Not when everything was figured out.
  • Not when I had all the answers.
  • But as I was moving forward in faith.

That’s the pattern we see in Genesis 24.

The servant didn’t wait for every detail before beginning his journey. He went—and along the way, he recognized the Lord’s hand guiding him.

That same pattern still holds true today.

We often think we need clarity before we move.

But more often than not, clarity comes as we move.

Does This Count?

Maybe you’ve wondered this too:

Does this part of my life count?
Is God really leading me here—in these ordinary, repetitive moments?

The answer is yes.

He is leading you:

  • In the meals you prepare
  • In the conversations you have
  • In the prayers you whisper throughout the day
  • In the quiet acts of service no one else sees

Not just in the big decisions.
Not just in the “spiritual” moments.

But in all of it.

Trusting His Leading Today

Not every step will feel significant.

  • Some days will feel repetitive.
  • Some seasons will feel hidden.
  • Some paths will feel uncertain.

But that doesn’t mean they are unled.

Sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is keep going—trusting that God is guiding you even when you can’t clearly see it.

So instead of asking, “What big thing is God calling me to?”
Maybe the question becomes:

Where am I already walking… and how is He leading me here?

Because you may already be exactly where you need to be—
being led, one step at a time.

And one day, you’ll look back and say with confidence:

The Lord led me every step of the way.
