Take Time and Get Alone to Pray
Do you take time to get alone and pray? I have to be honest with you, I struggle in this area too! I hope this challenges you today.
I love the example that Jesus sets for us in this passage to take time to get alone to pray after He had been ministering to all the individuals who came to Him.
I want to challenge you today to take even a few moments to get alone to pray. It will recharge you and prepare you for the next moments with your children, husband, co-workers, or individuals you are called on as women to serve.
Digging Deeper: Luke 5:12-16
Key Verse: Luke 5:15-16
We are looking again at Luke 5 because there was just so much in these few short verses. We are picking up where Jesus had just healed the leper. He instructed him NOT to tell everyone but to ONLY tell the priests in the temple.
Only Tell the Priest
And He charged him to tell no one, “But go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing, as a testimony to them, just as Moses commanded.” (Luke 5:14)
According to Mosaic law, when someone was healed of leprosy they were to go show the priest and make a sacrifice in the temple. This is what Jesus told the man to do.
If you had been healed of cancer, wouldn’t you want to tell everyone?
Why did Jesus often give these instructions to people he healed?
Jesus wants to touch your life but often people just want to be healed. They don’t see that sin infecting their life as defiling them. They just see their physical infirmities and want to be done with it so they can get on with living.
- Jesus was not seeking fame
- Jesus wanted most to impact the lives of individuals
- Jesus was not trying to attract crowds
- Jesus healed to meet the specific needs of a person
Can You Imagine the Reaction of the Priests?!
The priests had never seen anyone healed.
That commandment in the Mosaic law would have needed a LOT of DUSTING!! (Leviticus 14:1-57)
Take Time and Get Alone to Pray
Often after Jesus had been around multitudes of people He was physically and spiritually exhausted. We see Him going to the wilderness or a mountain to pray. He prays after times of ministering to individuals or before choosing the disciples who would work alongside Him.
We see Him going to the wilderness or a mountain to pray.
However, the report went around concerning Him all the more; and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities. (Luke 5:15)
I write my blog in hopes that it will encourage and minister to you. Another thing I do is a business that supports and encourages people to maintain a healthy life.
This challenges me to pray more as Jesus did. It would seem because Jesus is God-in-the-flesh that He wouldn’t have to pray like we need to.
He needed the strength also because He was constrained by a physical body like us.
How much more we NEED to pray!
So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed. (Luke 5:16)
In just these two verses, I see my need to pray more. If Jesus saw His need to get alone to pray, how much more I need to pray also.
I pack too much into my day and prayer gets crowded out. What I need more than anything is to take the time to get alone and pray as Jesus did after His time of ministry. What better way to recharge myself for the next time I have the opportunity to write or serve others through what I do for Christ!
How has this challenged you today? Are you more concerned about your physical issues or would you like to ask Jesus for spiritual healing and have a deeper walk with Him?
Thank You Judith for this lesson! I, too, get lax in my Daily Bible study or just read through it so I can get on with my day!😢. AWFUL!!! Your lesson today helped me to try harder and put my day on hold until my study is over!

Hi Elain! Thank you for leaving a comment. It will encourage someone who comes along to persevere in reading their Bible. We are in this together and it is a blessing to encourage each other.
