Broken Yet Treasured: A Woman After God’s Heart
Discover the beauty of being ‘Broken Yet Treasured.” In our weakness, God’s power will transform even the most fragile woman for His glory.
Treasure Inside Earthen Vessels
I have been doing the FREE Renew Me Bible Reading Plan this month which is part of the Renew Your Mind & Time Journaling Workbook.
Renew is the One Word I chose for this year and whether it’s your Word or not, you’ll love doing this Bible Reading Plan too!
Do you struggle with your worth? Do you think you’re UNworthy and NOT ENOUGH?
We’re constantly told to change our thinking patterns including thoughts that speak positive vibes into our brains of our worth and affirmations that tell us, “You’re enough!”
Thing is, that’s a total lie from our adversity!
I hate to break it to you, but you ARE UNWORTHY and you’re NOT ENOUGH!
You come up short.
And so do I!
We all fall short of the glory of God! (Romans 3:23)
Yet . . .
Even though you are not enough, you can BE ENOUGH!
You’re a broken earthen vessel. A cracked, broken, and chipped earthen vessel that God treasures.
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” (2 Corinthians 4:7)
Paul’s words remind us of a beautiful paradox: though we are fragile and unworthy, God has chosen to place His special power and presence within us.
As earthen vessels—simple, imperfect, and easily broken—we are entrusted with the treasure of His Spirit.
This treasure is not for our glory, but so that the “excellence of the power” is undeniably seen as from God.
Our Identity as Treasured Vessels
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.
This verse captures the profound truth of God’s grace and purpose.
As earthen vessels, we are fragile, imperfect, and prone to breaking, yet God chooses to place His treasure—His Spirit and glory—within us.
This treasure reveals that the extraordinary power at work in us is not our own, but entirely of God.Our weaknesses and limitations magnify His strength, ensuring that He receives the glory.
Through our brokenness, His light shines even brighter, reminding us and others that His power is perfect and His grace is sufficient. This treasure in our fragile vessels is a testament to His ability to use the weak to display His glory.
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. 2 Corinthians 4:7
We are unworthy, yet in God’s eyes, we are treasured.
Like clay jars, we may feel cracked, worn, or inadequate, but our worth comes from the treasure we carry.
This truth reflects God’s incredible grace—He delights in using the weak and broken to display His strength and glory.
When we sin and fall short, we may feel cast down. Yet, with a contrite heart, God revives us:
- “I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.” (Psalm 38:18)
- “The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
The Power of the Holy Spirit Within Us
Through the indwelling Holy Spirit, we carry the excellence of God’s power. This power is not for our comfort but for His testimony, enabling us to endure trials and glorify Him.
Paul highlights several contrasts that demonstrate the resilience God provides:
- Hard-pressed – yet not crushed: Though the pressures of life surround us, they cannot destroy us.
- Perplexed – yet not in despair: Even when we don’t understand, we can trust God’s plan.
- Persecuted – yet not forsaken: Though the world may reject us, God never abandons His own.
- Struck down – yet not destroyed: Life’s hardships may knock us down, but through Christ, we rise again.
The Dying and Living of Jesus in Us
Paul also speaks of the daily reality of dying to self so that the life of Christ may be reflected through us:
“Always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.” (2 Corinthians 4:10)
This “dying to self” means surrendering our will, desires, and comfort for the sake of Christ.
It’s through this continual surrender that His life and power become evident in us.
Just as Jesus’ death brought life to others, our sacrifices and struggles can bear witness to His glory and bring life to those around us.
Living as Testimonies for His Glory
As God’s treasured vessels, our lives are not about our perfection, but about His redemption.
Each trial we face is an opportunity to showcase His sustaining grace. Through our brokenness, His light shines all the brighter:
“We are like jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” (2 Corinthians 4:7, NIV)
Encouragement for Today
If you feel weak, inadequate, or overwhelmed, remember:
- God treasures you, not because of your strength, but because of the treasure He has placed within you!
- Your trials are temporary, but the glory they produce is eternal!
- Your brokenness can become a testimony, allowing God’s light to shine through the cracks!
Take heart in this amazing paradox: though we are fragile, we carry the immeasurable treasure of Christ, so that His power, not ours, is on full display.
Let this truth inspire you to walk boldly, trusting that God’s strength is made perfect in your weakness.
