Have you ever wished God would simply tell you exactly what to do?

Perhaps you’re facing an important decision. Maybe you’re walking through a difficult season and wondering what God is doing. Or perhaps you simply want to know how to follow Him more faithfully in your everyday life.

If you’ve ever prayed, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” you’re not alone.

Many Christian women desire to follow God’s will but struggle to recognize His leading. We want assurance that we’re making the right choices. We long for direction, wisdom, and peace.

The good news is that God desires to lead His children.

The Living Led Bible Reading Plan was created to help women learn to recognize God’s voice, trust His guidance, and walk confidently with Jesus, the Good Shepherd.

What Does It Mean to Live Led?

Living led means surrendering our own plans and trusting God’s direction for our lives.

That sounds simple enough, but in practice it can be difficult.

Most of us prefer certainty. We want to know where we’re going, how we’ll get there, and what the outcome will be before we take the first step.

Yet God rarely works that way.

Throughout Scripture, God often revealed only the next step to His people. Abraham was told to leave his homeland without knowing his destination. Moses led the Israelites into the wilderness without seeing the Promised Land. The disciples left their nets and followed Jesus without understanding everything that would happen.

God often leads progressively rather than providing a complete roadmap.

Psalm 119:105 reminds us:

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Notice that the psalmist didn’t say God’s Word was a floodlight showing the entire journey. A lamp illuminates only a few steps ahead.

God invites us to trust Him daily rather than demanding all the answers in advance.

Living led means taking the next step of obedience, even when we cannot see beyond it.

Jesus Is the Good Shepherd

One of the most beautiful pictures of God’s leadership is found in John chapter 10.

Jesus says:

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)

In biblical times, shepherds lived closely with their sheep. They protected them from danger, guided them to food and water, and watched over them day and night.

Most importantly, the sheep learned to recognize the shepherd’s voice.

When the shepherd called, the sheep followed.

Jesus uses this illustration to describe His relationship with believers.

He knows us personally.

He protects us.

He provides for us.

He guides us.

And He calls us to follow Him.

The sheep do not follow strangers because they know the shepherd’s voice.

Likewise, the more time we spend with Jesus, the more familiar His voice becomes.

We learn His character through Scripture. We discover His heart through prayer. We become sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Recognizing God’s voice is not about hearing an audible message from heaven. More often, it involves becoming so familiar with God’s Word and character that we naturally recognize His direction.

Why Following God Requires Trust

One of the greatest challenges of following God is trusting Him when His path doesn’t make sense.

There are moments when God’s leading feels clear and exciting.

Then there are moments when His path seems confusing, difficult, or even painful.

Perhaps you’ve experienced a season when nothing seemed to go according to plan.

Maybe a door closed unexpectedly.

Maybe a relationship changed.

Maybe you experienced loss, disappointment, or uncertainty.

In those moments, it’s easy to wonder if God is still leading.

Proverbs 3:5-6 offers wisdom for every season:

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

Notice that God doesn’t ask us to understand everything.

He asks us to trust Him.

Faith is not built upon having every answer.

Faith is built upon knowing the One who does.

As followers of Christ, we can trust God’s character even when we cannot understand His plans.

He is good.

He is faithful.

He is wise.

And He never makes mistakes.

God Is Our Refuge and Strength

Life can change in an instant.

One day everything seems peaceful and predictable.

The next day you may find yourself facing unexpected challenges.

That is why Psalm 46 has become such a meaningful passage for many believers.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

What a comforting promise.

Notice that God doesn’t promise a trouble-free life.

He promises His presence in the midst of trouble.

When we live led by God, our confidence is not found in circumstances.

Our confidence is found in His presence.

As women, we often carry many responsibilities. We care for our families, serve our communities, manage our homes, and support those around us.

Sometimes life becomes overwhelming.

Yet God continually reminds us that He is our refuge and strength.

He is not distant.

He is present.

He is with us in every season.

Whether life is calm or chaotic, we can trust the Shepherd who never leaves His sheep.
