How To Continually Give Thanks To God

Do you continually give thanks to God? Probably not!
It is easier to allow complaints to roll out of our mouth than to give thanks.
BUT . . . with the Lord’s help, I want to be transformed into a woman who continually gives thanks.
Would you like to join me?
For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come. Therefore by Him let us CONTINUALLY offer the sacrifice of PRAISE to God, that is, the FRUIT OF OUR LIPS, GIVING THANKS to His NAME. But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Hebrews 13:14-16

This is an amazing passage where we are reminded that ‘this world is not our home’ and that we are ‘seeking the one to come!’

Praise Causes You to Look UP in Hard Times

This year hasn’t been the easiest as COVID and staying at home for weeks on end changed our lives. Many lost jobs or businesses or overtime like my husband.

Even when you work from home like I do, there are times you need to go out (or would like to).

I felt relationships deeply and had times when it was hard to concentrate. I reflected on past events and relationships. It was a time of either growing farther and farther from God or drawing closer to Jesus because he cares.

Mostly, it was a time of realizing that this world is NOT my home.

That reminds me of the song, “This World Is Not My Home.”

This world is not my home I’m just a passing through,
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door,
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
Oh lord you know I have no friend like you,
If heaven’s not my home then Lord what will I do.
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door,
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

CONTINUALLY Give Sacrifices of PRAISE

Do you continually give sacrifices of praise? A sacrifice is usually something you give up or something that comes hard.
You might be learning to be thankful for things that you aren’t naturally thankful for. You have to work at it.
Even when you don’t feel like culturing a heart of gratitude, it helps to thank God for ALL that He has done for you!
This morning, this verse stood out as I read my Bible. It isn’t a verse offering up praise to God like many of the Psalms. Instead, it is a verse that CAUSES me to praise God.
Look around the room you are sitting in and see all the material possessions that God has blessed you with. Sure, you don’t NEED all of them but each of them are a blessing from God and not because you earned them. God gave you the ability to do whatever it took to buy these items.
Next, look around you and see the precious people God has placed in your life.
  • Your parents!
  • Your siblings!
  • Your husband!
  • Your kids!
  • Your grandparents!
  • Your mother-in-law!

Each of the people in your life are gifts from God. Have you thanked God for them lately?

This verse definitely caused my heart to continually give gratitude!

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. James 1:17

This verse makes me want to #PraiseTheLord for ALL that He has done for me!

Scripture Writing is one way of Bible Journaling. I would encourage you to write out a verse in a bright and fun way and see how it resonates with your heart as you draw closer to Jesus!

It isn’t always easy to give praise to the Lord.
It might be easy in church when everyone is surrounding and watching us . . . and when everything is going great!
What about when it doesn’t go so well?

The FRUIT of our LIPS . . . OUCH!!
Do we always have fruitful words and kind things coming from our lips?

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no Law. Galatians 5:22-23

How To Continually Give Thanks To God

Giving thanks to His name. To the name of Jesus. To God our Father.
Is your relationship with your husband often filled with difficulty?
Is it almost more than you can do to offer thanks for your husband to God?
It might be that you are having a difficult time with one of your kids. It isn’t the natural thing to feel thankfulness for them at this point. The relationship is strained because they are balking at everything your family stands for. They want to go in the wrong direction.
But did you know that when you offer a heart of gratitude to God for them, it allows the door to open for God to work in their heart?
If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. Psalm 66:18
Nothing is standing in the way of your prayers when your heart is right with God.
