Bible Journaling through Revelation
Bible Journaling through Revelation will give you coloring inspiration as this book about the end times comes alive before your eyes!
Why Read Revelation?
It’s hard to read through the Book of Revelation because it’s difficult to understand, at least for me. All the horrific events happening in our world and maybe even your life makes it even a more important read than ever before!
Hearing about uncertain times like earthquakes around the globe, fires across our country, unrest in our nation, the pandemic still going on, not to mention situations you might personally be experiencing, is enough to cause your heart to lose hope.
BUT . . . it says in Revelation 1:1-3, “Blessed is the one who READS aloud the words of this prophecy, AND BLESSED are those who hear, AND who keep what is written it, FOR the TIME is NEAR.” Revelation 1:1-3
And so I have been reading through Revelation and wanted to share it with you!
I have also been listening to a video course by F. Dean Hackett from Foundational which has helped me understand what is soon to come about.
Why Color through Revelation?
Coloring will help bring your study of Revelation alive!
As you read through this amazing book, you will be challenged to look for something to color about on each page and chapter. That helps your mind to stay engaged with what you’re reading.
Even though I’ve been listening to the videos about Revelation, it is still a book jam-packed with events. I’ll have to continue reading through this book throughout the rest of my life (or until I’m raptured out of here) to totally comprehend all that’s coming.
Coloring helps me to connect with Jesus and see him on every page through Revelation.
I also favor coloring over watercolors or acrylics because pencil crayons aren’t as messy and I have more control over what I’m illustrating.
I wasn’t an artist just a few short years ago when I started Bible journaling. So even though sometimes I paint, it is even more of a challenge. As it is, I have to search on Pinterest for inspiration and how to draw (like with the horse below).
You will really get more out of reading through Revelation if you create artistic illustrations each day. Don’t worry if your drawings or paintings are hardly ‘artistic’ because that isn’t what it’s all about!
It’s not about the art, it’s about the heart!
Remember that I’ve been doing this for several years. You can do this!
The journals below are taken from Jesus Journaling on Facebook where these journals were first shared.
Let’s look at a few things that John shares through Revelation as revealed by the Holy Spirit.
HOLD FAST!
Take a moment and read Revelation 2 and see what God speaks to your heart.
Jesus is speaking to the churches in Ephesus, Smyrna, and Thyatira.
He first shares something that He sees them doing right. Then he gives them a warning because of where they are failing.
He encourages each of us through the examples in these churches to:
- NOT LOSE YOUR FIRST LOVE!
- HOLD FAST NAME of JESUS!
- Only HOLD FAST what you have until I come. Revelation 2:25
What is God showing through Revelation 2?
Jesus IS Coming Soon!
I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. Revelation 3:11
The church at Thyatira was a city where workers had guilds. They were pressured to worship idols or they would lose their job.
Love was the focus even of the church, compromising so that they were politically correct in order that Believers could keep their jobs.
Their focus on love was out of balance. It was the worldly kind of love of Jezebel.
Jesus is warning the Believers in Thyatira that they will be judged if they do not REPENT!
But they didn’t repent!
There are some authentic Believers like Lydia who walked true to their faith in Jesus.
Jesus encourages them to HOLD FAST!
That is my encouragement to you, HOLD FAST. Don’t compromise with the love of this world that will pass away!
Holy, Holy, Holy
And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,
“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” Revelation 4:8
Are You Ready?
Are you ready to go through the ‘Open Door’ to heaven?
Are you ready when the trumpet blasts to signal the return of Jesus?
The Open Door is symbolic of the Rapture of the church. The trumpet sill sound!
Are you ready for Jesus?
After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” Revelation 4:1
Jesus Is Worthy
When the 24 elders were in the Throne Room of Heaven, they needed someone to open the scroll. No one could be found!
UNTIL . . .
They found Jesus the Lamb!
During Old Testament times, a young unblemished lamb had to be taken and killed (sacrificed) on the altar in order for your sins to be forgiven. When Jesus came and died on the cross at Calvary, He became the Lamb, sacrificed for our sins.
These are beautiful verses that can be sung as we worship Jesus for ALL HE HAS DONE!
And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.” Revelation 5:9-10
Jesus Our Kinsman Redeemer
This is about the Kinsman Redeemer who is Jesus. He is the only one who is qualified to open the seven seals. He had paid the price of redemption by dying on the cross for our sin!
Now I watched when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say with a voice like thunder, “Come!” And I looked, and behold, a white horse! And its rider had a bow, and a crown was given to him, and he came out conquering, and to conquer. Revelation 6:2
People Get Saved During the Great Tribulation
We don’t know how but somehow God reveals Himself to these people who become missionaries who spread the Gospel during the Great Tribulation.
There’s a risk of getting saved during the Tribulation because these people know they will be martyred for their faith.
As John was being shown what he would write about in the Book of Revelation, he was watching these martyred people arriving in heaven!
How amazing is that?
Learn to love the truth NOW and WALK in His commandments so that you won’t have to go through the Tribulation!
“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.” Revelation 7:12
Prayers of the Saints
When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.
Then I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.
And another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden censer, and he was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar before the throne, and the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel.
Then the angel took the censer and filled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth, and there were peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake. Revelation 8:1-5
I am reading through Revelation a little at a time early each weekday morning. The events happening around me and in the world are what caused me to take a deeper look at this amazing book.
