Do You Pray for Your Children’s Safety?

I am sure that you pray often for your children’s safety, right? Why wouldn’t you?

You love your children dearly and you would never want to see them hurt or suffering.

I am the same way with my children.

Praying for the safety of your children is natural.

Today we are looking at Psalm 57:1-11 in the Weariness to Strength Grace Study where we have three more passages to consider out of a total of twenty.

Are you in the middle of raising your children? The task seems daunting and never-ending. The year when your child will turn eighteen seems like it will never come. And then it suddenly arrives!!

You pray that they won’t fall out of a tree and break their neck.

That none of your children will fall out of a window or run through a glass door!

Somehow each generation of mothers survive and their children move on and start adulting like they did.

Each mother thinks she will be done when her child reaches eighteen and quickly finds out that she has new concerns and worries.

So she keeps praying for her children’s safety!!

“Dear Lord, please keep my children safe. Please keep them all safe. Please keep them safe! PLEASE, JESUS KEEP MY CHILDREN FROM HURTING THEMSELVES OR FROM A CAR ACCIDENT!!”

BUT . . .

The reality is that we live in a world that is turned upside-down with wickedness and sin. We have an enemy that is prowling around looking for whom he may devour and destroy.

He is after our children!!

Do You Pray that Your Children have Safety from the Enemy?

Praying that your children have safety from the enemy is more important than praying that your child doesn’t skin their knee.

It seems that more than ever before, the enemy is luring our children away from God and the church.

Some of my children have made poor life choices and are not walking with the Lord.

Their eternal safety is at stake and that is more serious than a deep cut on the leg. Their leg will heal but their soul will burn forever if they do not secure their safety while they are living.

Dear Lord Jesus, please calm the heart of each mom whose child has made choices that will bring eternal unsafety to their soul. We ask that this child’s heart would be radically turned to You while they still have breath and decide to follow You. Help this mom to pray fervently for the salvation of her child. In Jesus Christs’ name, Amen!

We need God’s mercy with these children’s eternal safety from the enemy. We need to pray that they wake up and see where they are going. We need to pray for their eternal destiny to be safe in Christ while there it is still called today.

Moms, this is a good verse to pray over yourself each day. God’s mercy is new every morning and your soul can trust in Him. He will hide you under His wings.

Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me!
For my soul trusts in You;
And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge,
Until these calamities have passed by. Psalm 57:1

Pray that Your Children are Dangerous to the Enemy

I know this is hard. I would rather have my children fit into my way of thinking. My agenda for their lives.

I will cry out to God Most High,
To God who performs all things for me.
He shall send from heaven and save me;
He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. Selah
God shall send forth His mercy and His truth. Psalm 57:2-3

Living in safety might be living on the edge of eternity. The wrong place to be for all eternity.

In my head, I know that the safest place for my children to be is in the center of God’s will.

In my heart, I want them to be physically and emotionally safe.

Jim Elliot was a missionary to the Auca Indians in Equador who was murdered in 1957 along with 4 other missionaries.

Read the book . . .

Or watch the movie on Prime . . .

It is better that our children’s faith is so solid that they will give their life for Jesus.

Jim Elliot did more damage to the enemy than if he had led a safe and comfortable life in the states instead of going overseas as a missionary.

My soul is among lions;
I lie among the sons of men
Who are set on fire,
Whose teeth are spears and arrows,
And their tongue a sharp sword.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
Let Your glory be above all the earth. Psalm 57:4-5

After his death, his wife Elisabeth Elliot and other missionaries began working among the Huaorani, where they continued evangelistic work. More people were reached for Christ than if Jim Elliot had lived a comfortable life of safety.

Your Children’s Eternal Safety

It is much more important that we pray for our children’s eternal safety.

Some of my children are living life on the edge. As long as they are living for Christ and are in the center of His will, they are safe and my prayer is answered.

I don’t know how I will handle it should harm come to one of my seven children. It would be devastating whether they are living for the Lord or not, to my earthly way of thinking.

I don’t know how I could handle it or how I could go on!!

What I do know is that God will be my comfort and will turn my weariness into strength.

I only have grace for the moment I am living and not for the future moment that I am worrying about!!

My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and give praise.
Awake, my glory!
Awake, lute and harp!
I will awaken the dawn.

I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing to You among the nations.
For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens,
And Your truth unto the clouds.

 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;

Let Your glory be above all the earth. Psalm 57:7-11

Pray for the safety of your children that they will be hidden in Christ for eternity. Pray that they will be dangerous for the enemy of this earthly kingdom!!

When you are not feeling strong enough to pray this kind of prayer, remember that in your weakness you have no strength but in Christ, you have the strength to carry on!!

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
