It was always a feeling of freedom when I drove to the store without any kids in tow. I can assure you that it was a rare occasion!
That’s just a free feeling. I might be worshiping God but that is not being free in Christ Jesus.
What does the word FREEDOM mean?
The web dictionary sums it up by saying that FREE means: enjoying personal rights or liberty, as a person who is not in slavery.
That is the problem with thinking we have freedom.
You might think you can do just about anything you want.
One of the things that the Bible warns about is putting something evil before our eyes.
“I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.” (Psalm 101:3)
Our eyes are the spiritual gate to our heart. We need to be careful because freedom means we change how we are living to bring ourselves in alignment with God.
As a Believer who has the Holy Spirit dwelling within you, it is a good thing to ask God if we are truly becoming a new creature.
When you got saved, did you do an about turn? Did you become a totally new person?
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
You have no personal rights or liberty!
How does that work?! Not having personal rights sounds so restricting and not like something you’d want. Right?
One of my biggest struggles with my husband used to be wanting my way over situations with the kids. Raising kids is the hardest season of marriage. Trust me.
We’ve weathered those storms but to be honest, at times it was harder than hard.
What I had to learn was giving in, surrendering my rights. I wasn’t perfect but continually made steps in the right direction.
In our marriage, being free is learning that surrendering our personal rights is where the journey to freedom begins.
What is Holding You Back From Living in Freedom?
Being free in Christ Jesus is having the Holy Spirit living in you so fully that you can say, Christ lives in me.
It is finding your righteousness in Jesus because He died on the cross for you.
It is the cross-life in our housework, situations in raising our kids, homeschooling (if that is the road you are on), and most of all in your marriage.
What is holding you back?
Do you feel like you are wanting to be more like Christ but constantly failing or taking steps backward?
Do you feel held back because you are basing your faith on your outward appearance?
- Is in what you DO at church or in the community?
- In the kind of clothes you wear?
- Or in how ‘nice’ and ‘sweet’ you act? (when you are disguising ugly thoughts and motives)
5 Freedom Strategies
- To lose self(ishness)!
- To have Christ living in you!
- To take up the cross in your marriage and parenting!
- To reach out to others because of what Christ has done for you!
- Is to be lost in Him!
You don’t have freedom in Christ Jesus to act out-of-control towards your husband and kids. When you do, simply go back to them and ask forgiveness.
Being free also doesn’t throw out holy living. Jesus came to earth and died for our sins so the Old Testament laws were no longer needed. Jesus became the law for us.
We are a new person because He lives inside of us moment by moment transforming us into His perfect holy image.
We are free because Jesus Christ lives in us!
