How To Be Passionate About Reading the Bible
Do you want to spark a fire for God that cannot be quenched? Today let’s look at how to be passionate about reading the Bible in the new year!
As you start the new year, you may be thinking over goals and strategies to make this year much better than the year you just finished! You might have made goals and strategies to be more successful and more passionate about everything you do on this earth.
It’s a good thing to evaluate how to improve your performance on the job or in your home. It’s more important to examine your walk with Christ last year with the intention of drawing closer to Him in the coming year.
Each morning I have an alarm that goes off in my heart driving me to spend time with Jesus. If for some reason it doesn’t happen, I am disgruntled and out-ot-sorts.
It’s not a biblical law requiring me to do it but rather something inside my soul that draws me to Jesus, my Savior, My King, My God, my Everlasting Father, my Living Christ, my Treasure, and my friend for daily communion.
Choosing One Word for the New Year
I used to make a complicated list of goals each New Year’s Eve because I desperately wanted to change the way I was doing life. I was passionate about Jesus and wanted to draw closer to Him but within just a couple of weeks, my list of goals was forgotten.
Then I ditched those resolutions and instead chose One Word for the new year that would change everything. I chose joy and many other words. In the last few years, hyphenated words have more fully captured what the Lord has been doing in my life.
This year, I was drawn to the word, FOCUS. I wanted my word to point others to the Lord so I chose Christ-focused to more fully express what I wanted to be the focus in every area of my life.
Whether I am cleaning, doing laundry, cooking or baking, writing for my blog, drawing for Jesus Journaling on Facebook, or working my business, I wanted to be learning to be more Christ-focused.
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4
Keep in Mind Your Season of Life
There are many different ideas for passionately pursuing God that may not work for you right now. You have to keep in mind the season of life you’re in and plan your Bible reading time with that in mind.
I am giving a few suggestions for you to consider.
You might be starting off this year passionate about reading your Bible but . . . if you are a mom of littles, reading the Bible in one year will probably steal your passion by the end of January.
So skip any of these suggestions that won’t fit into your season so you will continue to chase after God!
Reading Through the Bible in a Year
It is a wonderful thing to read through the Bible in a year but to be honest, I don’t do it every year. I’m not a fast reader and it takes away from spontaneously listening to God speak to me.
I am going to read from Genesis to Revelation this year but if it becomes too much, I will slow down. I find that I forget the details in the Old Testament stories when I don’t read through the Bible from beginning to end.
It keeps me passionate about the whole story of redemption.
But I am also passionate about my monthly Bible Reading Plans that focus on topics.
I also love Bible journaling because it helps me focus on one verse from the passage I read.
I can’t do everything every day and neither can you! We are women, like Martha who have many other cares and worries who want to be more like Mary!
I challenge you to be passionate about reading your Bible go deeper with Jesus this year. Please choose what works for you in the season your journey to heaven has you in.
Monthly Bible Reading Plan
I love to focus on just a verse or two each day.
Scripture Writing helps you to internalized a verse into your heart.
Bible journaling art is a great way of drawing closer to Jesus as you illustrate the verse using pencil crayons, paints, stamps, or many other ways of creating beauty as you meditate on God’s Word.
I have quite a few Bible Reading Plan FREEBIES available on this page for you to choose from.
This year, I hope to create some new Bible Reading Plans for you to do each month.
I will be giving you my newest Bible Reading Plan when you sign up for my newsletter!
Journaling Through Proverbs
This month in Jesus Journaling on Facebook, we are journaling through Proverbs. There will be short devotionals and journaling art not found on my blog from myself and other women.
Focusing on a topic or book of the Bible is a wonderful way of making the Bible come alive as we interact with the Word of God.
It is one of the ways that keeps me passionate about reading the Bible.
I am going through a major change in my life and it sometimes leaves me confused about how my day and responsibilities should look. I need wisdom more than ever before!
Digging deeper into Proverbs is a wonderful way to find the wisdom that God so willingly holds out for me. Proverbs is filled with short sayings offering advice for so many of life’s situations.
To know wisdom and instruction,
to understand words of insight,
to receive instruction in wise dealing,
in righteousness, justice, and equity; Proverbs 1:1-3
Be Passionate About Reading the Bible this Year
I don’t know about you but it only takes a few hours of neglect for my vision and passion for Jesus to become blurred. My whole reason for existing is to share Christ with those around me. Even those who I will never actually meet in this life through my blog, Facebook group, or business.
Just like in the movie, It’s A Wonderful Life, I touch the lives around me because I was created for a purpose. It gives my mundane ordinary life meaning.
This is why I need to keep passionate about reading the Bible because without doing so, I will become spiritually dull and unprepared to share Christ with a dying world!
So, I challenge you this year or whatever year to be passionate about reading your Bible as you fuel the unquenchable fire of the Holy Spirit and allow Him to burn in your heart for the rest of your earthly life.
